ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah issued a stern warning to Imran Khan on Thursday, stating that the former prime minister faces the possibility of being jailed if he does not help with the inquiry into the leaking of national secrets in the “cypher case,” as it is commonly referred to among the general public.

The warning from Sanaullah came a day after Khan’s close aide accused his ex-boss of building a “anti-establishment narrative” using a diplomatic cable from Pakistan’s envoy in the US.

According to the minister, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party president Khan might be arrested by the Federal probe Agency (FIA) if he does not help with the FIA’s probe into the cypher case. Khan is the head of the PTI party.

According to a report from Dawn News, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sent a notice to Khan requesting that the PTI chairman appear before the bureau on July 25 in connection with the investigation into the cypher.

Azam Khan, who had not been seen since the previous month, was able to find his way back home when a letter purportedly written by him and related to his statement against Khan was published on social media. This change of events came as a complete and utter surprise.

On June 15, Azam Khan was reported missing, and the Islamabad police department opened an investigation into the possibility that he had been kidnapped.

At this time, the Islamabad High Court is also considering a petition that asks for Azam Khan to be returned to his family.

In the meantime, in response to recent assertions made by a trusted assistant of the former prime minister, the United States government has once more dismissed the charges that Imran Khan has made over the cypher.

On Wednesday, the spokesperson for the State Department, Matthew Miller, was questioned regarding his thoughts on the taped confessional statement given by Azam Khan.

Miller, in response to a question, stated as follows: “I don’t know how many times I can respond to this question from the podium and give the same answer, which is that these allegations, such as they are, are completely unfounded. ”

” Miller further stressed that the United States does not become involved in domestic political issues and does not take sides on political parties in Pakistan or any other country. He stated that the US does not take sides on political parties in any country.

Imran Khan was removed from office by the National Assembly in April 2022 after he was defeated in a vote of no confidence, during which he claimed that the United States government became involved when he visited Moscow.

Imran Khan has asserted that the United States is behind a plot to oust him from government, and he displayed the cypher while speaking at a public rally in order to support his accusations.

These charges have been repeatedly refuted by the United States, which describes them as “completely baseless.”

Imran Khan made a trip to Moscow in February of the previous year and met with Vladimir Putin, who was serving as President at the time, on the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
