Hisar : In a historic move, the much-awaited Hisar-Chandigarh direct train service has been resumed after a long gap of 59 years, marking a significant boost in rail connectivity for Haryana. The new service was officially flagged off today by Hisar MP Brijendra Singh and senior Congress leader and Hisar MLA Savitri Jindal, who jointly showed the green flag to the train.

The resumption of this route is being seen as a major achievement in regional infrastructure development, reconnecting two key cities of Haryana — Hisar in the western part and Chandigarh, the state’s capital in the north. Residents of Hisar, Bhiwani, and nearby districts have welcomed the move, as they will no longer have to rely on long and indirect routes to reach the capital.

An added benefit of this route is its extension toward Gurugram, one of the state’s major economic and IT hubs. The inclusion of Gurugram in this new railway connectivity ensures better mobility for daily commuters, business travelers, and tourists, and also strengthens the inter-city rail network within Haryana.

Officials from Northern Railway confirmed that the train will operate on a regular schedule, offering comfortable seating and upgraded amenities for passengers. The journey is expected to reduce travel time and ease the burden on road transportation, which often suffers from congestion, especially during weekends and holidays.

Political leaders and citizens alike hailed this development. While flagging off the train, Savitri Jindal mentioned that the new rail link is a testament to the growing importance of inclusive connectivity and will greatly benefit students, professionals, and the general public. She also thanked the railway ministry and the central government for their role in reviving this long-pending demand.

This move is part of a larger plan by Indian Railways to enhance intercity rail infrastructure and promote regional development by linking tier-2 and tier-3 cities with state capitals. The Hisar-Chandigarh train service, now operational, is expected to see high demand from the very beginning.

Local businesses, educational institutions, and healthcare providers are also expected to benefit, with improved access and mobility giving rise to new opportunities. With this launch, Haryana takes a strong step forward in strengthening its rail-based transport system.
