Dr. Govind Singh replaces Kamal Nath as LoP in MP House
Bhopal, Apr 28: In a major shift within the Congress camp, the party high command on Thursday accepted erstwhile chief minister Kamal Nath’s resignation – from the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly – and passed on the mantle to seven-time MLA Govind Singh who represents Bhind district’s Lahar. A communication from party General Secretary KC Venugopal confirmed both vital political developments. Mr. Kamal Nath will continue in his capacity as Congress state President. Dr G Singh served as minister in both the Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath dispensations. Felicitating the incumbent, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote in social media, “It is hoped that under Dr G Singh’s leadership the Congress will fulfil its role as ‘a creative critic’ in the House and adopt a positive stance vis-à-vis public welfare issue.” During an interaction with media representatives, the Leader of the Opposition said, “I shall continue to work as I did earlier. With all the power at my disposal, I will perform my part, expose the BJP government’s evil practices and compel the dispensation to address the populace’s troubles. Mr Kamal Nath, (party President) Mrs Sonia Gandhi, (her son) Mr Rahul Gandhi and (General Secretary) Mr Mukul Vasnik have reposed confidence in me.” Dr G Singh made a courtesy call on his predecessor at the latter’s residence here.
