New Delhi, April 28: With the Ukraine conflict affecting the delivery schedule of wheels and axles for luxury Vande Bharat trains, India said on Thursday, it is looking at options to ensure the train components are delivered early. According to reports, India had placed orders with a Ukrainian firm for wheel sets for Vande Bharat trains, and the conflict has now hit the delivery of the same. Around 128 wheels were taken to neighboring Romania by road and these are to be airlifted by the Indian Railway Ministry. Ukraine, one of the world’s largest suppliers of such wheels, has virtually stopped new production due to the Russian invasion. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, in a media briefing, said: “Vande Bharat wheels, axles, are made in Ukraine. Some of the components are made there, and due to the conflict, there, it has impacted the delivery schedule. We are looking at the options we have to see that the delivery is on schedule as quickly as possible.” He said they are in coordination with the Railways Ministry and “looking at all options” for the delivery. The wheels were planned to be shipped from the Ukrainian Black Sea Port to Maharashtra’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which has been affected due to the conflict. (UNI)
