SAS Nagar (Punab):  Swift action by the SAS Nagar Administration, supported by public representatives and local residents, averted a major crisis today after a portion of the Nada–Khudda Lahora road along Patiala Ki Rao suffered huge damage due to heavy water flow.

It is  reported  after an urgent call from residents of Nayagaon regarding the road damage by the local administration, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal immediately directed the Drainage Department and MC to initiate repair work. She rushed to the spot and supervised the plugging and strengthening of the embankment, which also acts as a protective barrier for thousands of people living in the low-lying area.

Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang, MLA Anmol Gagan Mann, and  DC Mittal were present on site to oversee the operations. Local councillors and residents also extended timely support by assisting the administration in initiating repair efforts. The Drainage Department arranged sandbags and jumbo bags alongwith many tippers of boulders, while the Municipal Council provided C&V material and sand bags to reinforce the damaged stretch.

MP Malvinder Singh Kang said the quick repair and strengthening work prevented a major tragedy. He commended the prompt response of the District Administration and the community in safeguarding lives and property, and assured that the seasonal rivulet’s course would be properly managed in the near future.

MLA Anmol  Mann, who closely monitored the repair work at the site, stated that the coordinated efforts of the Administration and locals saved a large population of Nayagaon. She further added that the streamlining of Patiala Ki Rao would be undertaken soon to prevent such incidents in the future.

DC Komal Mittal explained that the sudden surge in water flow from the catchment area due to heavy rainfall posed a serious threat, but immediate intervention ensured the situation was brought under control.

The District Police, led by SP City  Sirivennela and DSP City-1 Mohali Prithvi Singh Chahal, assisted by managing traffic and ensuring safety around the site. ADC (Urban Development) Anmol Dhaliwal and SDM Kharar Divya P were also present to monitor the work being executed by the Drainage Department and Local Bodies (with inputs from DPR 0ffice).
