Chandigarh Police arrest key accused in online investment fraud case | Chandigarh News LatestChandigarh : The Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh, arrested 28-year-old Deepak, son of Suresh Kumar, in connection with two major online investment frauds that duped Chandigarh residents of over ₹1.6 crore.

An FIR dated May 2, 2025, was registered by a city resident who lost around ₹1.4 crore through fake trading websites – gomcz.com and wuihdjh.com. Victims were lured via WhatsApp groups, where fraudsters impersonated JM Financial representatives. Initial small profits were shown to build trust before withdrawals were blocked.

Investigation revealed funds were routed through multiple accounts, including M/s Mavona Logistics Services, before reaching Deepak’s account. Acting on leads, police arrested him in Jhajjar, Haryana, on August 28.

Another case, registered on July 15, involved a victim who clicked a YouTube pop-up ad and was added to a WhatsApp group featuring fake investment lectures, quizzes, and fabricated success stories. He invested ₹26.5 lakh into accounts including Deepak’s, and was threatened when trying to withdraw money.

Police have secured ₹65,057 in the May FIR and nearly ₹12 lakh in the July FIR. Accounts involved are under scrutiny to trace the broader financial network.

The operation, led by SP Cyber Crime Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, with supervision of DSP A Venkatesh and Inspector Eram Rizvi, SHO, Sector 17 Cyber Crime Police Station, marks a significant step against rising online financial scams.

Officials warned citizens against online investment scams, urging verification only with SEBI-registered companies and reporting suspected fraud via National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in.

The accused remains in police remand as investigations continue.
