Chandigarh: A shocking case of fraud has surfaced in Chandigarh, where a resident of Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, was duped of ₹32.37 lakh by a city-based immigration firm on the false promise of a work visa abroad.

According to Chandigarh Police, the victim, Sparsh Sood, paid the hefty amount to World Walk Immigration, located at SCO No. 110–111, Second Floor, Sector 17-C. The firm’s representatives, identified as Anubhav Garg alias Anshu and others, allegedly assured him that they would secure a job opportunity and arrange his work visa overseas.

However, despite repeated assurances, no visa was arranged. It was only then that Sood realised he had been cheated and decided to approach the police for justice.

Police Action

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 318(4), 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 24 of the Immigration Act. Investigations are now underway to trace the culprits and recover the cheated amount.

Immigration Scams on the Rise

Officials point out that immigration fraud is becoming increasingly common, especially in northern India, where many youths dream of working abroad. Fraudulent agencies lure them with job promises and visa guarantees, only to disappear after extracting huge sums.

Authorities have advised the public to thoroughly verify the credentials of immigration firms and cross-check official authorisations before paying large amounts.
