Chandigarh Chosen for Digital Land Records Project
Central government launches land stacking for easy access…..
Chandigarh Residents of Chandigarh will soon be able to access their property records with just a single click, thanks to the central government’s ambitious land stacking project. Chandigarh has been chosen as one of the pilot regions for this digital initiative that aims to bring together all land and property-related data under one integrated platform.
The project’s goal is to eliminate the long-standing struggles that citizens face when trying to obtain property details, mutation records, or ownership documents. Currently, such records are scattered across multiple departments, often leading to delays, confusion, and even disputes. With the launch of the land stacking project, all this information will be consolidated digitally, making it easier for people to access authentic records anytime, anywhere.
Officials have explained that the project will create a unified system where land records, property tax details, registration documents, and even mapping data will be available on one portal. This means that instead of running from one government office to another, residents will only need an internet connection to view or download the required details.
The administration believes this digital step will not only simplify life for property owners but also reduce corruption and minimize fraudulent land deals. For years, lack of transparency in property transactions has been a source of disputes and legal cases. By ensuring that all information is digitally verified and regularly updated, the project is expected to bring a new level of trust and clarity in property dealings.
Chandigarh being chosen for this project is seen as a recognition of the city’s modern infrastructure and tech-readiness. Often referred to as the “City Beautiful,” Chandigarh has been at the forefront of adopting smart solutions, from traffic management to waste disposal. Now, with the land stacking initiative, it is also becoming a model city for digital governance.
Residents, especially the younger generation, have welcomed the move. For them, digital access means saving time, avoiding unnecessary paperwork, and reducing dependence on middlemen. For elderly citizens, the government has assured that help desks and facilitation centers will be set up to guide those who may not be comfortable using digital platforms.
Experts suggest that beyond convenience, the project will also have long-term benefits for urban planning and development. With centralized data on land use and property ownership, authorities will be able to make better decisions regarding infrastructure projects, zoning, and expansion. Transparency will also encourage investment in real estate, as buyers and developers will have reliable access to verified information.
While the project is still in its initial phase, officials have indicated that the system will be rolled out in stages. Citizens can expect the first version of the portal to be functional soon, with more features being added gradually. If successful, the Chandigarh model may later be replicated across other states and union territories in India.
For now, residents are hopeful that this initiative will finally put an end to the hassles of running after files, clerks, and offices, and truly bring the convenience of “one click access” to property records.
