New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Bhartiya Janata Party has won four out of 7 seats in the bye-elections, counting for those were conducted today. BJP retained Gopalganj in Bihar, Dhamnagar in Odisha, Gola in Lakhimpur Khiri (UP) and won Adampur(Haryana) for the first time. RJD retained the Mokama seat in Bhar, TRS from lone Telangana seat and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackrey Group) candidate Rutuja Ramesh Latke won from Andheri East seat.

Suryavansi Suraj of BJP on Sunday won the by-election to Odisha’s Dhamnagar (SC) Assembly constituency defeating his nearest rival BJD’s Abanti Das by a margin of 9881 votes in a five-cornered contest.
The by-election to the Dhamnagar Assembly seat was held on November 3 following the demise of BJP sitting MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi in September.
Survansi, the son of the deceased legislator, polled 80351 votes, Abanti Das of BJD got 70470 votes, and Congress contestant Baba Harekrushna Sethi managed 3561 votes.
Rajendra Kumar Das, the former Dhamnagar BJD MLA, threw his hat into the electoral battle as an Independent after he was denied a party ticket, and secured 8153 votes.
Political observers said the emergence of Rajendra Kumar Das in the fray, the sympathy of voters, the dominance of BJD leaders from Jajpur during the campaign and better poll management by BJP were among other things which led to the BJP ‘s win in the by-election,.
Pavitra Mohan Das, who contested the election as an Independent, got 497 votes and 650 voters exercised their franchise for the NOTA option. The BJP’s win in the Dhamnagar by-election put a brake on the winning trend of BJD for the last few years. The BJD had not lost a single by-election since 2009.After the result was declared, the BJP activists celebrated the win in Dhamnagar, at state party headquarters in Bhubaneswar and in other places by distributing sweets, dancing, bursting crackers and beating drums.
Senior party leaders like BJP president Samir Mohanty and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined the party activists to celebrate the victory.
Senior leaders of all three major political parties camped in Dhamnagar for days and campaigned for their respective candidates considering its impact on the coming 2024 election. (UNI)
