Guwahati, Mar 9 (UNI) The ruling BJP in Assam has registered a resounding victory in civic bodies elections winning 74 out of the 80 civic bodies in the state. The opposition Congress has been completely decimated as the grand old party managed to win only one municipal board. While BJP’s ally in the government Asom Gana Parishad won 2 municipal boards. The Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF failed to win any municipal board in the elections. Counting of votes began at 8 in the morning on Wednesday. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used for the first time in the elections to Assam civic bodies. Polling was held for 80 civic bodies across Assam on Sunday. On a massive win Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted “The grand victory of @BJP4Assam in the #AssamMunicipalElection reflects the trust of all sections of the society in Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas & Sabka Prayaas. Grateful to the people for this massive mandate”.
