BIS (North) Showcases Pioneering Achievements and Plans in a Riveting Annual Press meet
BIS also trains and exhorts industries to adhere to international quality guidelines, enabling them to meet GATT regulations on Global trade
Chandigarh: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Northern Region, launched their 77th Foundation Day blitz with an interaction with media in Chandigarh. Highlighting their remarkable achievement, significant milestones achieved over the last 77 years, the Govt. of India’s premier quality standardization and certification conglomerate, briefed media on their future plans, synchronization with PM Modi’s ‘Make in India’ brand building plans.
Media representatives from renowned outlets, including Press Information Bureau (PIB), gathered in Chandigarh, to witness a compelling session led by Mr. Rajiv. P,, Deputy Director General BIS (North), Saurabh Tiwari, Scientist- Director & Branch Head and Mr. Deepak Agarwal Scientist, Director & Chandigarh Branch. Head.
Highlighting the series of awareness initiatives of BIS on public adherence to quality and citizens’ participation through ‘Standards Clubs’, ‘Common Consumers’ , sensitization of public functionaries like Gram Panchayat Pradhans and members, deploying trained volunteer Mentors. Mr. Rajiv informed that 345 districts of India are on the priority list (out of 806) in the country. 234 new products have been added into BIS standardization roaster, said Mr. Rajiv. BIS teams conducted over 20 raids on spurious water bottling units and 10 units fabricating duplicate industrial products, during the year 2023.
Mr. Saurabh Tiwari, shared that more than 2700 Gram Panchayat Pradhan were sensitized for adherence to Indian Standards in products used in development works, in Haryana.
Mr. Deepak Aggarwal shared that Chandigarh Branch has granted All India First Licenses to various Industries in Punjab thus ensuring quality and safety of those products.
