Dhaka: A special political party has been formed as an alternative to BNP in view of the 12th National Assembly elections.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Movement (BNM) for short name has already applied for registration with the Election Commission.
Although strangers are placed in the main leadership, there are several leaders of BNP behind. If the participation of BNP is not confirmed, this opportunistic section is said to participate in the next elections under the banner of BNM.
According to some confidential sources, due to the strict stance of BNP to participate in the National Assembly elections under the current government, efforts were being made for a long time to form an alternative party with followers of different opinions within the party. Such initiatives of some BNP leaders have also been discussed at different times.
In 2020, this section was criticized by top party leaders with a separate program to topple the government. At that time, BNP had accused two vice chairmen of breaking party discipline.
According to sources, due to the party’s strict stance, some of them withdrew from the plan, but a section continued the process of reconciliation with the government in view of the upcoming elections. Even if BNP does not go to the election as a party, they want to confirm their position in the next parliament. BNM has been developed as an alternative platform to fulfill that goal. The source claims that it is almost certain to get the registration of this party from the Election Commission.
Ahead of the next national elections, the deadline for applications for registration of new political parties ended on Sunday. A total of 80 teams submitted applications within the stipulated time. Bangladesh Nationalist Movement is at number 21 in this list.
On October 23, the leaders of the party quietly submitted the application. Dr. Abdur Rahman as the convener of the party.
According to the application form, the head office of the party is located at 55/1, Purana Paltan.
BNM convenor Dr. Abdur Rahman told a media person at Dhaka ‘We have applied for registration in the Election Commission I don’t want to say more now. I will not give any information about the team now.’ When asked who is with this initiative, he said, ‘I will call you in due course and present the details officially.’
When asked about the party’s central committee, organizational status, number of leaders and workers across the country, he refused to comment. (UNI)
