89 – Meera Sahib Fathima Biwi became the first woman judge of the Indian Supreme Court of India. After retirememt she was appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu, where she is known for making some controversial decsions viz., approving arrest of K Karunanidhi and inviting Jayalalitha to be the Chief Minister of the state despite having no clear majority in the Assembly elections (113/234) in 2001. She later resigned the Guv post. She was awarded Mahila Shirom
ani award, Kerala Prabha, and Padma Bhushan in 2024.

1997 – Dr. Kalpana Chawla became the first Indian woman to become an astronaut. Karnal (Haryana) born US citizen later died in her third space mission in Columbia Shuttle disaster in 2003.
1997 – Kiran Bedi, India’s first woman police officer, was awarded the Joseph Beuys prize for her work in reforming the largest prison of the country. Born in Amritsar on June 9, 1949, K

When she was denied to become Commissioner Delhi due to Congress Party politics, nshe resigned and later was appointed LG Puducherry. She is credited for bringing Jail Reforms in Tihar, Delhi and founding IVF. for police reforms.
2011 – India revealed the Akash Tablet Computer for only $ 35. The tablet was designed to provide
a better access to the internet and technology for poor students in rural districts.
Born…. 1524 – Rani Durgavati. She was a valiant queen of the Gond Kingdom of Central Provinces. She is celebrated for her resistance against the Mughal Empire and is remembered as a symbol of bravery and courage in Indian history (pic credit-tribalhorizon.com).
1923 – Kailashpati Mishra, a politician, was a prominent leader of Jana Sangh (now Bhartiya Janata Party) from Uttar Pradesh. He took part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and was arrested. He was a member of t
he Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1943 and was even jailed after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. While studying in class X, Kailashpati Mishra was arrested for picketing at the main gate of his school at Buxar in support of the 1942 Quit India Movement. He served as Finance Minister in Karpoori Thakur ministry in 1977 in Bihar and became Governor of Gujarat and Rajasthan in 2003-04 (pic credit-alchetron.com).
1934 – Cho Ramaswamy (Srinivasa Iyer). Was a famous Tamil, telugu, Kannada film actor, comedian, editor, political satirist. He acted in 180 films, 20 plays, also wrote several books and pulished a journal called Tuughlaq. He was nominated member of Rajya Sabha (1999-2005) and was a sympathiser of BJP (DMK alliance). 1 – Ramnath Goenka, journalist and founder chairman of the Indian Express Newspapers Group. He resisted stoppage of publishing his newspapers during Emergency 1975-77 by PM Indira Gandhi. He ran a crusade against hardship to citizens during Emergency and censorship on newspapers. He was also elected to Lok Sabha from Vidisha in 1971 on Bhartiya Jansangh ticket.
