Kottayam :Rahul Mamkootathil, the Kerala Youth Congress state president and Palakkad MLA, resigned from his post following allegations of sending obscene messages made by model Rini Ann George and writer Honey Bhaskaran. The resignation was announced during a press conference at his residence in Adoor on Wednesday.Kerala Youth Congress Chief Rahul Mamkootathil addressing media amid allegations

Rahul Mamkootathil denied all allegations, claiming they were an attempt to divert attention from issues plaguing the LDF government. He emphasized that no formal complaint had been filed against him by any of the women making the accusations.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul said, “I am resigning not because I have done anything wrong, but to save the valuable time of party workers who should not have to justify my position. It is my responsibility to prove my innocence, and I will face these allegations individually.

Rahul further clarified that none of the women who made the allegations mentioned his name officially or filed any complaints. He challenged those raising accusations to come forward with proper complaints and pursue legal action. “I am answerable only if a formal complaint is filed against me,” he added.

Regarding a voice clip circulating on social media containing serious allegations, Rahul dismissed it as potentially fabricated. He questioned the media’s enthusiasm in this case compared to the silence when complaints were made against other politicians like Mukesh MLA or when voice clips of Minister A K Saseendran surfaced.

When asked about screenshots of conversations with a woman that were made public, Rahul said that if she had any valid allegations, she should take the matter to court. He stated that the conversations he had were healthy and that the woman had not revealed the entire dialogue, nor would he.

Rahul also denied any pressure from the party’s High Command, Opposition Leader, or KPCC President to resign. “Satheesan never said anything about the complaint. If I have committed any illegal act, they can file a complaint, and I will prove my innocence in court,” he asserted.

In response to the controversy, the Youth Congress has initiated an internal probe to investigate the matter thoroughly.
