The Punjab Congress is set to stage a major protest in Ludhiana today, voicing strong opposition to the Land Pooling Policy 2025 introduced by the state government. The protest will be led by MP Raja Amarinder Singh Warring, who is expected to address party workers and local residents at the demonstration site.

The Congress leadership has accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of drafting the land policy without proper consultation with farmers and landowners. They argue that the Land Pooling Policy 2025 undermines the rights of landholders, particularly in urban expansion zones, by coercively acquiring land in the name of infrastructure development.

MP Raja Warring has stated that the policy would “open the floodgates for real estate exploitation and hurt small landowners and farmers”. He emphasized that Congress will not remain silent while what he calls “anti-people policies” are pushed through by the AAP government.

Hundreds of Congress supporters are expected to gather in Ludhiana, holding placards and shouting slogans against the policy. The protest is being conducted peacefully, but police forces have been deployed in key areas of the city to ensure law and order.

Warring will also submit a memorandum to the district authorities demanding that the policy be withdrawn immediately and redrafted in consultation with stakeholders. The Congress party has warned that if the government does not respond, the agitation will escalate to the state level.

The Land Pooling Policy 2025 was recently introduced by the Punjab government to encourage planned urban development. Under the policy, landowners contribute their land to a pool for the creation of residential and commercial spaces, with a promise of developed plots in return. However, the opposition claims the compensation structure and legal clarity remain vague and unfair.

This protest marks the latest chapter in the ongoing political tussle between the Punjab Congress and the AAP-led state administration, particularly on issues of urban development, farmer rights, and governance transparency.
