IAS Rani Nagar Gets Relief from UPSC!
Forced Retirement Not Approved, UPSC Suggests Grade Reduction Instead
Haryana : cadre IAS officer Rani Nagar, who had been facing the threat of compulsory retirement, has now received a major relief from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The commission has not approved the Haryana government’s decision to forcibly retire her and has instead suggested a downgrade in her service grade.
Rani Nagar, a 2014-batch IAS officer, has been absent from service since 2021, citing security concerns and harassment. Her frequent public statements and social media posts had drawn attention to her alleged struggles within the bureaucracy. She even resigned from the IAS back in 2020, but later withdrew her resignation, further complicating her case.
In recent developments, the Haryana government had reportedly initiated the process for compulsory retirement due to her continued absence from duty. However, the UPSC, which plays a key role in such service matters, has rejected this recommendation. Instead, the commission has advised that her grade be reduced as a disciplinary action, rather than removing her from service entirely.
This decision comes as a big win for Rani Nagar, who had been fighting not just administrative proceedings, but also what she described as a lack of institutional support in addressing her grievances. Sources suggest that the UPSC was not convinced that her absence from service alone warranted a forced retirement, especially in the light of her past appeals and explanations.
The Haryana government is now expected to act on UPSC’s recommendation, and a final order regarding her service status could be issued soon. The development has also sparked discussions about mental health, safety of women officers, and the need for reforms in administrative grievance redressal systems.
Rani Nagar’s case has always drawn public attention for its unusual nature and the transparency with which she chose to share her side of the story. Whether she returns to active duty or continues to stay away, this latest decision adds another twist to her already eventful career.
