Chandigarh : Electricity consumers in Chandigarh have been given a final opportunity to officially increase their sanctioned electricity load without facing any penalty or the need to submit a test report. The Electricity Department has announced that this special relaxation will remain in effect only till July 31, 2025.

The move aims to regularize excess load usage among domestic and commercial consumers, especially amid rising electricity consumption during the peak summer season. The department stated that after the deadline, consumers found using more load than sanctioned will be penalized and required to provide a fresh test report along with other formalities. Consumers can apply for the load enhancement through the official portal of the Electricity Department or by visiting their respective Sub Divisional Offices. Officials have clarified that no physical inspection or wiring test will be needed during this grace period, making the process simpler and quicker.

A senior official from the UT Electricity Department said, We urge all consumers who have increased their power usage but have not updated their sanctioned load to make use of this facility before July 31. After that, strict action will be taken as per the rules. This initiative is particularly beneficial for households that have added air conditioners, geysers, or other high-load appliances in recent years but never officially updated their sanctioned load. It will also help prevent transformer overloads and maintain better power supply quality across the city.

The department has also launched a public awareness campaign through SMS alerts and local newspapers, encouraging citizens to comply within the deadline. Consumers are advised to act promptly to avoid penalties and ensure uninterrupted power supply in the future.
