Jalandhar : MLA and senior leader Pargat Singh has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, accusing it of pushing the state deeper into debt. Singh alleged that the current government has become the most indebted administration in the state’s history. Highlighting the financial crisis, he revealed that the government took yet another loan of ₹100 crore just last month.

In his statement to the media, Pargat Singh criticized the AAP leadership for its fiscal mismanagement. According to him, despite making tall promises of financial prudence and development during election campaigns, the AAP government has only added to the state’s financial burden. He pointed out that the frequent borrowing indicates a deepening cash crunch and an inability to manage existing resources effectively.

Singh further warned that this unsustainable debt trajectory could severely impact essential public services and welfare schemes in the future. “When the government relies so heavily on loans to meet routine expenses, it signals a worrying trend. Sooner or later, the common man will bear the brunt of this financial mismanagement,” he said.

He also criticized the lack of transparency in the government’s financial dealings, claiming that the public has a right to know how the borrowed funds are being utilized. Pargat Singh urged the government to provide a detailed breakdown of loan usage and present a concrete plan to stabilize Punjab’s finances.

The remarks have sparked a fresh political controversy in the state. Opposition parties have seized upon Singh’s allegations to corner the AAP government, demanding accountability and a detailed audit of the state’s finances. On the other hand, AAP leaders have defended their policies, arguing that borrowing was necessary to fund key infrastructure projects and public welfare initiatives amid declining revenue due to the pandemic.

As the debate intensifies, the issue of Punjab’s mounting debt is likely to remain a major point of contention in state politics. With elections on the horizon, both ruling and opposition parties are expected to focus heavily on financial issues to sway public opinion. The coming months will reveal how the AAP government responds to these serious allegations and whether it can regain public trust on the fiscal front.
