NITI Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index 2022 ranks Tamil Nadu first, Gujarat fourth.

Tamil Nadu tops the Niti Aayog Export Preparedness Index 2022. The state led the third rankings with 80.89, ahead of Maharashtra (78.20) and Karnataka (76.36). Gujarat, the first two-time winner, finished fourth with 73.22 points.
The index evaluates states’ export preparedness and performance. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaas praised the rankings and said the state’s number-one ranking validates its ease of doing business ranking.
“Tamil Nadu has long been an export leader in sectors like automotive, leather, and textiles, and we recently became the no. 1 electronic goods exporter,” the minister said.
He commended Chief Minister MK Stalin’s efforts to foster industry in the state. “This strengthens our resolve to become a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030,” he stated.In the financial year 2023, Tamil Nadu’s electronics exports nearly tripled to USD 5.37 billion from USD 1.86 billion.
It rose from fourth to first in 2023. Tamil Nadu became India’s leading electronics exporter after Tata Electronics and Pegatron began operations.
Tamil Nadu exported 11.98% of India’s USD 15.59 billion electronics items in 2020-21. A policy brief says Tamil Nadu wants 23 lakh crore in investments and 46 lakh employment. The state wants to boost manufacturing from USD 48.1 billion in 2020-21 to USD 236 billion in 2030-31.
The Niti Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index encourages competition among coastal, landlocked, Himalayan, and UT states to improve policies, ease regulations, build infrastructure, and identify strategic recommendations to boost export competitiveness.Policy, business ecosystem, export ecosystem, and export performance determine the ranking.
