Life imprisonment to two in the case of death of an elderly couple by stealing and setting fire to their house.
Faridkot: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajeev Kalra held two youths guilty in the case of death of an elderly couple in an incident of theft and set fire to a house in Teachers Colony here around 4.30 pm and sentenced them to life imprisonment and 15- Sentenced to a fine of Rs 15,000. According to police records, on July 31, 2019, the day of the incident, Parminder Pal Singh of Faridkot had lodged a complaint with the police that his 61-year-old father, retired teacher Surjeet Singh and mother Baldev Kaur lived in their old house.
He started living near Baba Farid School. He had gone to meet his sister in Jagraon on July 28. On July 31, he got a call that his house in Teacher Colony had caught fire. After receiving the information, when he reached there along with his sister, he saw that the fire department had extinguished the fire, while his parents had died due to burn injuries.
During investigation, briefcases and cupboards etc. were found open in the house. When the police started investigation on the complaint of Parminderpal Singh, it came to light that Mandeep Singh alias Robi and Manpreet Singh alias Pintu, residents of Teacher Colony, had committed this crime. The police arrested both of them on August 2, two days after the incident and during their interrogation it came to light that both of them had stolen gold, cash etc. from the house and set the house on fire. In this case, on Monday, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rajeev Kalra held both the accused guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 each.
