Chandigarh: In Punjab, the Punjab-Haryana High Court has issued a notice to the Punjab Government and other defendants and ordered them to file their reply on the illegal use of red-blue lights on the pilot and escort vehicles of MPs, MLAs, Board and Corporation Chairman and Mayor etc. .
While filing the petition, Simranjit Singh of Jalandhar told the High Court that considering the red-blue light as a part of VIP culture, the Central Government had stopped its use for everyone in 2017. These cannot be used even on the vehicles of the President and the Prime Minister. The Central Government’s notification of 2017 was also adopted by the Punjab Government and issued the notification. Despite this, elected representatives of the public and other VIPs are using red-blue lights on their escort and pilot vehicles to show their influence.
The petitioner said that these vehicles have been made available to these public representatives by the State Transport, but even the State Transport does not have any authority to allow such use. Along with this, VIPs also get the vehicles provided modified and even get the police logo installed on it. In this way, the law is being made a mockery of by modifying the vehicles.
The petitioner has appealed to the High Court to issue an order to take action against the officers and public representatives who ignore the rules and do not take action against such vehicles. After hearing the arguments of the petitioner side, the High Court has issued notice to the Punjab Government and others on the petition and ordered them to file their reply.
