1835 – The first U.S. patent for a horseshoe manufacturing machine was issued to Henry Burden. He made nearly all the horseshoes used by the Union cavalry during the Civil War.

1863 – Patent granted for a process of making colour photographs.

1889 – The first jukebox was installed when an entrepreneur named Louis Glass and his business associate, The machine was an instant success, earning over $1000 in less than six months.

1897 – A U.S. patent was issued for a pencil sharpener to its black American inventor, John Lee Love (pics credit-SunSign.org and James Andrew)

1936 – 1st issue of Life, picture magazine created by Henry R Luce, hit newsstands.

1948 – The first U.S. patent for a lens to provide zoom effects for television cameras was issued to F.G. Back as a “varifocal lens for cameras.”

1948 – The besieged garrison of Punch was relieved a full year after its siege. Thus, a firm grip was established all the way from Pathankot on the major portions of this province.

1963 – A helicopter of the Indian Air Force crashed in Poonch district, killing all six passengers. Six distinguished officers of the Indian Armed Forces were on board, including three general officers, an Air Vice Marshal and a brigadier. A black-bordered extraordinary Gazette of India was issued on 23 November. In 1980, a memorial was constructed in Poonch called the Generals’ memorial which paid tribute to the victims.
