No Confidence sans Mutual Confidence

Opposition Parties fail to select a Senior Leader to attack NDA on a Crucial Occasion

491

New Delhi: The No-Confidence Motion (NCM) presented by the Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha against ruling NDA failed to create any ripples in the political arena, neither in the Lok Sabha nor across the Nation. This was the second occasion when PM Narendra Modi led ruling party faced the NCM squarely and demolished most of the charges of incompetence by the newly created loosely bound Front I.N.D.I.A.

The arguments put forth by Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi and later by Kerala MP Rahul Gandhi were merely a bundle of hyperbole and slogan shouting  than any facts and figures pin pointing where the Central Government lacked in delivering its promises or solving social conflicts, border  issues with China, Pakistan or infiltration in the North Eastern states from Bangladesh and Myanmar.

When they have formed a united Front to take on  the Modi Government in 2024  Lok Sabha elections, why has Opposition failed to be lead the attack by senior  speakers from Opp ranks like Dayanidhi Maran, Dimple Yadav, A Raja, or from own ranks like Shashi Tharoor, Karti Chidambaram or others instead of fielding Gogoi, Adhir Ranjan and Rahul at the outset. Congress also presented a flop show by walking out before voting on No Confidence motion, thereby accepting a defeat and showing no confidence whether their allies would stand by them or not.  Counts could have given a clear position, who stands with them and who will desert  before 2024  elections.

NDA on the other hand put up a strong team of speakers from FM Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajyaverdhan Singh Rathore on state of economy, state politics and Manipur mayhem by HM Amit Shah recalling history of ethnic conflicts in north eastern including Manipur  states from early days of Independent India.

PM Modi demolished the opposition attack by recounting achievements of his govt. during the last 9 years on domestic affairs, financial achievements Defence and diplomatic dividends by exerting India’s foreign policy without any compromises.  PM reminded the main opposition Congress, how the banking system was left in a limbo, over 5 lakh  crores of oil bills left to be paid to Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia who were issued Oil Credit Bonds from 2008 onwards.

Modi also highlighted how India faced 3 years of epidemic unleashed by Covid-19, India’s Covid vaccine development in a very short time and supplying the Vax to

over 160 countries apart from providing Free vaccine to over 100 crores citizens twice during the epidemic period. Free ration to over 80 crore population for over three years.  G-20 Presidency of India was very astutely turned into an opportunity to project India’s  infrastructures development, tourism potential and diplomatic skills, when events were organized in 100 plus cities in 10 month period, including Srinagar in J&K, which was known a stone-pelting and one of the worst terrorism’ affected states of the world for last 70 years. Removal of Article 370 from J&K, Triple Talak and several other decisions were forcefully counted by the BJP led NDA in its defence.

Although challenging the incumbent Party in the Parliament through a No-Confidence Motion is a privilege of any Opposition party or Front, yet they need to make a forceful case against the Government with facts, evidences and mismanagement and convince 140 crores Indians, how they have been handling situations and what better quick-fix solution they could have applied, had they been in their shoes. Merely shouting and using throat power to impress country’s population over TV channels won’t take them many miles ahead from their shaking post nor will it fetch them extra votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Members of Parliament wasted three days (22 precious working hours) of its time which could have been used in solving several burning issues like interstate disputes, unending struggle over reservation, delivery of justice to crores of litigants getting dust over their files instead of quick dates or decisions.

Supreme Court, our Highest Seat of Justice,  has been ruling over the administration of the Nation indirectly, thanks to high profile cases over individual prestige, privileges and Fundamental Rights. The highest Court of the country has failed to direct these high profile litigants to read the Chapter on Citizens’ Duties and Directive Principals in the Constitution of India, which were framed after deliberations over 2.5 years.

There are cries over efficacy of our Constitution and system of delivery of Governance, among the intelligentsia including legal and administrative luminaries, apart from majority of Citizens who have got little wisdom from time-wasting parliamentary debates. There is no harm in having a serious exhaustive look thru’ the 74 year book that has been amended over 120 times to suit the powerful rulers instead of poor toing citizens !
