NEW DELHI: The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has undertaken an ambitious plan to train and equip approximately 1 lakh nurses and 10 million carers, so that they can be deployed abroad, to meet the growing global demand for qualified nurses, dental assistants, dialysis technicians, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, and other specialised healthcare professionals.

The next batch of healthcare workers is receiving specialised skill training in addition to language proficiency training in English, Japanese, and German so they can fit in and communicate effectively in international placements, even though thousands of healthcare workers have already been posted abroad in hospitals and institutes.

A skilled healthcare staff has been trained by NSDC, a public-private partnership company with the primary goal of accelerating India’s skills landscape, and placed abroad.
In addition, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Singapore, and Japan are actively collaborating and partnering with the NSDC International Limited (NSDCI), a subsidiary of NSDC, a leading global talent development organisation of India, to meet their demand aggregation.

NSDCI has already established international centres in India to train nurses and the associated healthcare workforce in order to guarantee a consistent supply of qualified healthcare employees. The National Council Licensure Examination, an instrument that can be used to evaluate healthcare practitioners in a clinical context, as well as language competence examinations are also planned to be implemented.

Additionally, partnerships have already been established with esteemed institutions including the University of Cambridge, Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Trust, Goethe (a German language course), and top Japanese corporations.

Similar to this, NSDCI is collaborating with National Health Service Trust in the UK to hire 1,500 carers and 1,000 nurses to satisfy demand. The strategic plan for demand aggregation also includes the United States, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and the GCC nations. According to Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC and MD of NSDC International, “NSDC is at the forefront of strengthening the skilling ecosystem in India and understands the need for skilled health professionals in India and globally.”

“NSDCI is collaborating with numerous prestigious universities and top private businesses to develop international possibilities for healthcare professionals and is playing a crucial part in tackling the issues relating to the scarcity of qualified manpower in the healthcare industry. To help close the skills gap and to encourage knowledge-sharing and collaboration between academia and business, NSDCI is also trying to establish channels for skill harmonisation, training, and partnerships with partner nations, he told this paper.

In order to provide chances for healthcare professionals to work abroad, NSDCI also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Nursing Council, a national governing authority for nurses and nurse education in India.
