New Delhi, NewsOnRadar Bureau,  June 12: The Central Public Sector Enterprises  did tremendous work during Covid-19 through their  initiatives ranging from supplying oxygen to hospitals, creation of infrastructures to support lakhs of migrants, said  Mr Atul Sobti, DG, SCOPE, during a webinar organized by PRS Delhi on Saturday.  Mr Sobti is former CMD, BHEL, a profit making  PSU in power sector.                                                           Mr. Sobti  called the CPSEs  as ‘the real warriors’, who contributed over Rs. 2400 crores to PM Cares Fund, apart from CM Care funds in states. Many PSUs converted their facilities to  isolation centers, provided  masks, medical equipment and shifted their industrial Oxygen generation facility into Medical-grade Oxygen for patients in hospitals and carried  Oxygen Tankers  to every nook and corner of the country.                                He countered the  myths about PSUs being under performers and  loss-making  by placing data  on their past history and present scenario. He added, there were only Five CPSEs during First 5-Year Plan, which have now grown to  348, out of which  249 are operational, contributing 13% to India’s GDP (turnover USD 363 billion). The combined contribution of  India’s CPSEs is more than the combined contribution of 140 countries across the globe  put together.  92% of work in coal sector is done by  CPSEs, 51% in Power Sector, 83% in Natural Gas Sector, 37% in Fertilizer Sector as per DPE report  for 2018-19, he said.  CPSEs made a profit f Rs. 1.75 lakh crore during this period.  Over 71% of the CPSEs, (178 out of 249)  CPSEs are profit-making.  He compared the figures with USA where 38% out of 7000 listed companies are profit-making. However  in India  over 50% of 7400 are  in the  Green.                                                                                                                                                                                      Mr. Sobti informed audience that to improve communication,  SCOPE is calling upon  all CPSE employees to have a Twitter account; by end May ’21 over One lakh members have enrolled on the Twitter, he added.

The DG SCOPE, Mr Sobti  appreciated PRS Delhi saying,  “I am very happy to know that PRSD is doing  good work for enhancing skills of PR professionals. It has got a vision  to get recognition of PR as a profession to recon with.  I would  also like to give my best wishes to Shri S.S. Rao  on having taking over as Chairman , PRSD”  he  added. Mr G.S. Bawa, Secretary PRSD hosted  the Webinar, Mr S,S, Rao welcomed the  Guest Speaker and Mr Vipin Kharbanda, Governing Board Member proposed a Vote of Thanks after the  94 minute long web-meeting, attended by 497 PRSD and other visitors.
