1903 – Thomas Edison’s concern about X-Ray injury was front page news in the New York World newspaper.
1921 – 1st aerial crop-dusting (to kill caterpillars).
1926 – The first traffic lights in Britain were installed at Piccadilly Circus.
1943 – Gen. Patton slaps a U.S. GI in the hospital accusing him of cowardice. As a result, Patton’s career was halted as former subordinates became his superiors).
1958 – The USS Nautilus became the first submarine to travel under the geographic North Pole when the ice-pack conditions were favourable.
1991 – About 280 kgs of Gold ornaments valued at $15 million, which had been deposited by the Goans, in the Portuguese banks, flown back to India.

2022 – Cells of recently dead pigs brought back to life by researchers at Yale University, with huge implications for organ transplants and stroke sufferers, as well as ethical questions over definition of death.

1886 – Maithili Sharan Gupta, known as Rashtrakavi, pioneer poet of Khari Boli, Braj Bhasha and modern Hindi/Sanskrit poetry and literature, writer, patriot and social worker. Wrote Saket, Rang Mein Bhang, Matrubhumi, Bharat-Bharati, Jaydrath Vadh, Gurukul, Yashodhara, Dwapar etc. Was nominated to Rajya Sabha twice and honored with Padma Bhushan.
1916 – Shakeel Badayuni, poet and lyricist. Wrote popular film songs O Duniya Ke Rakhwale, Man Tarpat Hari Darshan ko Aaj, Door Koi Gaaye, Insaan Bano Bachpan ki Mohabbat Ko etc. for films like Chaudhvin ka Chaand, Bees Saal Baad etc. He was awarded with Padma Shri by GOI.

Play of the Tiger – Puli Kali, Kerala: Puli Kali, celebrated mainly in Thrissur dictrict of Kerala is one colourful spectacle bursting with energy. Performed by trained artists, Puli Kali is celebrated on the fourth day of Onam. Painted in bright yellow, red and black, performers take to the street, dancing to traditional folk beats.
