RANCHI: At Chainpur Police Station in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, a police officer said on Sunday, a FIR had been filed against 18 people (13 named and 5 other unnamed) for allegedly tampering with the national flag during the Muharram parade.

Locals claim that the “national flag” was flown during the Muharram procession at Kalyanpur-Kankari, where the Ashok Chakra had been changed by some Urdu text with a sword-like sketch underneath. Since the flag was visibly waving, pictures and videos of it went popular on social media, drawing attention from the local government. After filing a FIR, the police claim that they are conducting extensive raids to apprehend the suspects based on video evidence.

The official in charge of Chainpur police station Rupesh Kumar Dubey stated, “FIR has been lodged against 13 named and 5 anonymous persons under sections 153 (A) (B), 120 (B), and many other sections of insulting the national flag.

According to the statement made by the magistrate stationed there to maintain law and order, the FIR was filed when it was discovered that the social media post was accurate during the investigation.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rishabh Garg further disclosed that a FIR under various sections of insult to the national flag, in addition to hurting the people’s feelings, has been filed against 18 people in the case of flag tampering.
