Probe ‘foreign conspiracy’ charge: Pakistan daily
Islamabad: A leading Pakistani newspaper on Wednesday called for an investigation into persisting allegations that “a foreign conspiracy” brought down the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“Confusion and obfuscation have become a predominant feature of our national politics,” Dawn said in an editorial.
It referred to President Arif Alvi reportedly changing his stance after asserting earlier that he was not convinced a “foreign conspiracy” indeed toppled cricketer-turned-politician’s PTI government.
The Dawn said it cannot disagree with the President’s contention that “a thorough investigation” was needed into the allegation.
“It would help clear the murkiness that still surrounds the issue despite two NSC meetings discounting the existence of such a scheme,” it said.
The PTI has continued to relentlessly push the theory, even after the leak of two audio clips in which some of its top leaders, including Khan, appear to be discussing how to “play” with the contents of the cipher.
It said that if a probe was conducted by a committee acceptable to all, it will help lower political temperatures in the country. (UNI)
