Dharamshala: A worrying increase was seen in new cases of Covid-19 in this district, as the number reached 168 on Tuesday, from 10 on June 3.
Chief Medical Officer of Kangra Gurdarshan Gupta told UNI that the weekly positivity rate, which was only 0.8 in the month of May, increased to 6.9 last week.
He said that last week, two patients also lost their lives due to the pandemic. The number of patients coming to various hospitals with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) symptoms has also increased, he added.

As per the CMO, in view of this, all Kangra residents were appealed to strictly follow the Covid-19 compliant behavior. He advised the citizens to wear a mask, maintain distance of two yards, and wash hands regularly with soap and water.
Gupta said that a person experiencing ILI symptoms should immediately isolate himself and go to the nearest health institution and get his Covid test done, so that proper treatment can be started in time.
“By hiding the symptoms, we are putting our health as well as that of our family and others at risk. We need to break the chain,” he added.
The CMO said that along with this, all eligible persons above the age of 12 should make sure to get their Coronavirus vaccination done, especially those above 60 years.
Today, 40 fresh cases, including 24 females tested positive for the lethal infection in the district, taking the number of Covid-19 cases to 64235. The number of active cases touched 168, while recoveries stood at 19 today, taking the total number of recoveries to 62812 in the district.
Deputy Commissioner of Kangra Nipun Jindal told UNI that all fresh cases who tested positive today, were isolated as per the protocol.
Jindal further said that there was no Covid-19 deaths reported from any part of the district today, thus the death toll remained stagnant at 1248.
Meanwhile, resentment prevailed among those who got vaccinated outside India, particularly in the US, as they were deprived of booster dose here for want of a policy of the Central government.
A 70-year-old senior journalist at Kangra, who was vaccinated in May, 2021 in Washington DC and denied booster dose here in India for want of a defined government policy and tested positive for Covid-19 last week, was struggling for life.
He demanded the GOI to come out with a policy for booster dose for such people. (UNI)
