Yamuna Surpasses Danger Level, Flood Threat in Braj Region

18

Agra The Yamuna River has crossed the danger mark near Braj region following heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and adjoining areas. Late last night, the water level at several monitoring points surged above the critical warning thresholds, triggering flood alerts in nearby villages around Agra and Mathura.

The persistent rains in the upper catchment areas have caused the Yamuna’s tributary, the Kalindi River, to swell significantly. Authorities reported that the river’s rising water levels were closely monitored throughout the night. Early morning reports indicate a sharp increase in water flow, leading to heightened concerns about flooding in low-lying and riverside communities.

Villagers residing along the banks of Yamuna and Kalindi have been advised to stay alert and be prepared for potential evacuations. Local administration has set up control rooms to manage flood relief operations and coordinate with disaster management teams for timely response.

The flood threat comes at a time when agricultural fields in the region are at risk of being submerged, which may impact the livelihoods of thousands of farmers. The administration is also closely monitoring the condition of embankments and flood barriers to prevent breaches.

In the past few years, the Braj region, including districts like Agra and Mathura, has witnessed an increase in flood incidents during the monsoon season. This year’s early and heavy rainfall has added to the concern, prompting the government to remain on high alert.

Weather experts have warned that more rainfall is expected in the coming days over Uttarakhand and neighboring areas, which could further aggravate the situation. Residents have been urged to follow official advisories and stay away from vulnerable flood-prone zones.

State disaster management officials are continuously reviewing the situation and are ready to deploy additional resources if required. Relief camps and emergency medical teams are also on standby to assist affected populations.

The government has appealed to citizens to cooperate with rescue teams and avoid unnecessary travel near rivers and flood-affected zones.
