September 4-5: Rain or thundershowers likely
Flood Relief Measures
On Thursday, as the water level crossed the danger mark, a flood relief camp was set up in Mayur Vihar. Local resident Ashok said,
“These tents are set up for people living near the river. They will stay here when the floodwaters rise.”
Monsoon and Record Rainfall
The IMD stated that India recorded one of the highest rainfall levels in decades during August 2025, with exceptional rainfall across multiple states. IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra highlighted that monsoon activity revived strongly in the second half of August and is expected to continue with above-normal rainfall in September.
All India rainfall (August 2025): 268.1 mm – 7th highest since 2001
Northwest India: 265.0 mm – highest since 2001
South India: 250.6 mm – 3rd highest since 2001
IMD explained that the rapid revival of the monsoon from August 14 was driven by four low-pressure systems resulting in 15 active monsoon days in the latter half of the month.
