World leaders greet India on 75th Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) Congratulatory messages on India’s 75th Independence Day poured in on Sunday from several world leaders and their representatives, including the US, Russia, Canada, and nearer home from Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa were among those who extended greetings on India’s 75th Independence Day, while the envoys of Germany, France, Russia, and Afghanistan too extended their greetings.
Biden, in a message, said India and the US have come together in new ways as they combat the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as in partnership with the Quad, to manufacture and deliver safe and effective vaccines, and “together we must show the world that our two great and diverse democracies can deliver for people everywhere”.
“In this moment of great challenges and opportunities, the partnership between India and the United States is more important than ever. Together, we must show the world that our two great and diverse democracies can deliver for people everywhere. And as we do, the friendship between our nations will continue to flourish and grow. I wish all those celebrating today, in India, in the United States, and throughout the world, a safe and happy Indian Independence Day,” he said.
Putin, in a congratulatory message, said he is convinced that the further enhancement of the bilateral ties meets the interests of their peoples and is on the path towards strengthening stability and security at the regional and global level.
Extending his “cordial congratulations on the National Holiday – the Independence Day”, Putin said the success achieved by India in economic, social and other spheres is widely acknowledged.
“Your country rightfully enjoys high prestige in the global arena and plays an important role in solving topical issues of international agenda.”
“We appreciate the relations of the privileged strategic partnership between our countries. I am convinced that the further enhancement of the whole range of constructive Russian-Indian ties entirely meets the interests of our peoples and goes within the course of strengthening stability and security on regional and global level,” he said in a message.
Canada’s Justin Trudeau, said “More than 1.4 million people of Indian descent call Canada home – making valuable contributions to our country and helping us build a stronger future. Today, we join them and the people of India as they celebrate India’s Independence Day.”
“Canada and India enjoy a longstanding and dynamic relationship built on strong people-to-people ties, cultural exchanges, and economic cooperation. Over 1.4 million people of Indian descent call Canada home, making valuable contributions to strengthen our economy, and working to help shape a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive country.
“Today, Canada and India work closely together for the benefit of people in both countries, including as members of the G20 and through other multilateral institutions, to foster economic growth, reinforce the rules-based international order, invest in education and innovation, and empower women and girls. We have also been close partners in the global efforts to fight the COVID-19 health crisis, working collaboratively to ensure mutual access to essential medical equipment,” Trudeau said.
Mahinda Rajapaksa, congratulating India on its 75th independence day, added: ”May the strength of the bond shared between both our nations grow each day.”
Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Prime Minister of Nepal, said: “On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, Congratulations and greetings to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, the Government and people of India.”
Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said: “Our heartfelt greetings to President Ram Nath Kovind, PM @narendramodi and all Indian people on the 75th Independence Day of India. May this occasion renew India’s resolve to safeguard its proud republic and continue its great traditions of democracy and unity through diversity.”
Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed said: “Indian Ocean peace and stability is entwined with a strong and independent India. With its Diamond Jubilee of Independence, India shoulders more responsibility and leadership. A very happy Independence Day to the people of India and their leaders.“
The Russian Ambassador in India, Nikolay Kudashev, in a video message, congratulated all Indians on the Independence Day. “We have no doubt that India will be further heading towards new accomplishments and big goals…Long live the Russian-Indian friendship,” he said, ending his message with “Jai Hind”.
German Ambassador Walter Lindner, in a video message, also said a line of greetings in Hindi. “Heartfelt congratulations for independence day. Aap sabko Independence Day ki shubh kamnayen.”
He said India’s independence “did not come on a silver platter” and it was the fruit of a long and arduous struggle for the people of India. “It is an experience that inspires the whole world until today.”
Standing against the Berlin wall, attired in a light blue kurta with a dark blue scarf around his neck, he said “I am standing in front of the Berlin Wall and exactly 60 years ago this wall was built, a wall which was dividing Berlin, Germany and Europe and East and West. But humans seek for freedom and independence, and in the end they had success, mostly.
“On your independence day, dear Indians, you celebrate exactly this. This spirit will continue to carry India forward to a brighter future. On this path Germany will remain a true friend and strategic partner. So best wishes again, jai hind.”
Farid Mamundzay the Afghan ambassador in India, tweeted his greetings, adding: “Freedom is the open window through which pours the sunlight of the human spirit and human dignity.”
Emmanuel Lenain, the French Ambassador, said: “In the last 7 decades, India has never bowed to adversity & always kept moving forward, inclusively. France fully shares this spirit. As India enters its 75th year of Independence, I extend my best wishes to all our Indian friends! #VasudhaivaKutumbakam.”
