Will India Change Its Playing XI for the Second Test..
Nitish Reddy and Kuldeep Yadav likely to be included as India aims to bounce back at Edgbaston
Edgbaston : As India gears up for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, there are strong indications that the team management is considering a few key changes to the playing XI. After losing the first Test, the pressure is on the Indian side to make a comeback in the five-match series.
According to team sources and cricket analysts, Nitish Reddy and Kuldeep Yadav are strong contenders to make it to the starting lineup. Nitish Reddy, who has impressed in domestic cricket and recent A-team tours, could be brought in to bolster the middle order or provide seam-bowling backup, depending on the pitch conditions. Kuldeep Yadav, India’s premier left-arm wrist spinner, might replace a fast bowler if the pitch shows signs of assisting spin.
The Edgbaston pitch has historically favored seam bowlers, but recent weather conditions and grass trimming may balance conditions slightly in favor of spinners as the game progresses. Out of the eight Tests played between India and England at this venue, England has won seven, with just one Test ending in a draw. This makes the venue a formidable challenge for India, which hasn’t won a Test here yet.
India’s batting lineup is also under scrutiny after the underwhelming performance in the first Test. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are expected to retain their places, but the middle-order composition may change if Reddy is slotted in. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid are likely to finalize the squad after assessing the pitch on the morning of the match. The inclusion of Kuldeep could also depend on whether Ravindra Jadeja is fully fit and available.
England, on the other hand, is expected to stick to their winning combination, relying on their pace attack and experienced batting lineup to maintain momentum. The second Test is crucial for India’s hopes in the series. A win would not only level the contest but also break their long-standing Edgbaston jinx.
