Chandigarh : The financial condition of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) is in dire straits despite efforts to address the mounting issues. For the fiscal year 2025-26, the corporation has passed a budget of ₹1864.92 crore. However, a significant portion of this budget, approximately ₹1197 crore, will be allocated to pay the salaries, allowances, and pensions of employees. The corporation is facing a paradox, where the amount spent on employee wages and benefits is so high that even adding grants and other funding sources, they still fall short of the required amount.
