West Bengal post-poll violence: CBI files three more cases, total 48 cases registered
New Delhi, Dec 9: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed three more cases in compliance with the orders of Calcutta High Court, passed in connection with post-poll violence incidents and took over the probe in these cases.
With these cases, CBI has now registered 48 cases so far in connection with the post-poll violence in the state.
Two of these cases were earlier registered at different Police Stations in West Bengal on various allegations while one case has been registered afresh, the CBI said.
According to the agency, the first case was earlier registered at Barasat Police Station, North 24 Parganas district, on June 26, on the allegations that the accused broke into the victim’s house on June 25, and severely beaten him. He was admitted to Barasat Hospital and later shifted to another hospital. But the victim finally succumbed to injuries on August 6.
The second case was earlier registered at Jhargram Police Station of Jhargram district, on June 17. The accused allegedly attacked the maternal house of the complainant on May 3, and vandalized it. The miscreants allegedly outraged the modesty of the complainant’s maternal grandmother, said CBI.
The third case was registered afresh on the complaint on September 15, submitted by the complainant Raina Police Station, Purba Bardhaman district. The unknown accused allegedly attacked the victim’s house several times during May 2 to 4, and threatened his family members besides vandalizing it. The victim was found missing on May 5, and was allegedly found hanging from a nearby tree in the afternoon of the same day, said CBI.
