Vidya Balan reminisces memories from ‘Parineeta’s’ shoot

New Delhi :- Actor Vidya nalan walked down memory lane as she recalled working on her debut film parineeta which is set to re release in theatres on August 29. Helmed by the late filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar the film originally released on June 10, 2005 and featured Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt alongside Balan. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra it was adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyays 1914 Bengali novel.

Balan fondly remembered meeting Sharmila Tagore during the films shoot. I remember during the shoot one day Sharmila ji came to the set and i was so excited to see her. I absolutely love her. We both greeted each other like we knew each other and Saif turned around and said, Oh I didn’t know you knew each other. I replied, I know her she doesn’t know me. That moment still makes me smile, she recalled, adding that Saif sense of humour often kept the set lively.

Speaking about Pradeep Sarkar, Balan described him as the foundation of everything she learned in her early years. Dada’s attention to detail was unmatched he could do a hundred takes not just for performances but even to capture pigeons flying or leaves falling at the right time. Once I did 28 takes just to get a teardrop timed perfectly to a line in a song. That was the kind of precision he demanded she said crediting him for teaching her balance observation and respect for every detail in the craft.

Set in 1960s Kolkata Parineeta tells the story of childhood friends Lalita (Vidya Balan) and Shekhar (Saif Ali Khan) who gradually fall in love but their relationship is tested by misunderstandings and family ambitions. Sanjay Dutt played the role of Girish, a family friend who helps Lalita when Shekhar’s father eyes her uncle property for a hotel project. The restored version of Parineeta has been prepared by Prasad Film Labs.
