New Delhi: The price of a vegetarian plate surged to ₹33.3 in October 2024, compared to ₹31.3 in September 2024 and ₹27.7 a year ago. Similarly, non-vegetarian plates reached ₹61.6, up from ₹59.3 in September and ₹58.6 in October 2023. The report attributes this rise to increased prices of essential vegetables like onions, potatoes, and tomatoes, which contribute a significant portion to meal costs.

Vegetables Drive Up Kitchen Expenses:
Rising prices of onions, potatoes, and tomatoes have increased the cost of home-cooked meals by up to 20% in October 2024.

Impact on Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian Meals:
The cost of a vegetarian meal has surged to ₹33.3 per plate, a 20% year-on-year increase, while non-vegetarian meals now cost ₹61.6 per plate, marking a 5.11% rise.

Fuel Prices Offer Some Relief:
A 11% annual decline in fuel costs has partially offset the steep rise in food expenses, as per CRISIL’s “Roti Chawal Dar” report.
