New Delhi — Businessman and Congress leader Robert Vadra has come out in support of Rahul Gandhi’s recent accusation of “vote theft” during elections, directly questioning the impartiality of the Election Commission (EC). Speaking to reporters in the national capital on Friday, Vadra claimed that the EC has been operating under “clear political influence” and failing to protect the democratic process.

Vadra’s remarks follow Rahul Gandhi’s earlier statement alleging manipulation of votes in certain constituencies, which sparked a fresh political debate. According to Vadra, the concerns raised by Rahul are not just political rhetoric but reflect a larger problem with the way elections are conducted in the country. “If the people’s mandate is not respected, then the very foundation of democracy is at risk,” Vadra said.

The businessman-turned-political figure accused the EC of turning a blind eye to reported irregularities during polling and counting. He alleged that complaints filed by opposition parties often go unanswered or receive delayed responses, undermining trust in the electoral system. “The Election Commission is supposed to be an independent constitutional authority, but today it appears to be working under pressure from those in power,” he added.

Vadra stressed that ensuring free and fair elections is crucial for maintaining public confidence in governance. He called on citizens to speak out against electoral malpractice and urged political parties across the spectrum to unite in demanding transparency. “It is not about one party winning or losing — it’s about protecting the people’s choice,” he said.

The Election Commission has yet to respond to Vadra’s latest statements, but in previous instances, it has rejected allegations of bias, insisting that it conducts elections in a free, fair, and impartial manner. Nevertheless, Vadra’s comments are expected to add fuel to the ongoing political discourse, especially as the country prepares for upcoming state polls.

Political analysts believe that Vadra’s public backing of Rahul Gandhi strengthens the Congress party’s narrative of electoral injustice and may energize its supporters. However, critics argue that such statements, without concrete evidence, risk eroding public faith in institutions.

Vadra also touched upon the need for stronger mechanisms to monitor voting and counting processes, suggesting the use of advanced technology to ensure transparency. He reiterated that any perception of bias within the EC must be addressed immediately to prevent further damage to democratic credibility.

The remarks have triggered sharp reactions from rival political parties, with leaders from the ruling camp dismissing the allegations as an excuse for electoral setbacks. In contrast, some regional parties have cautiously echoed the call for reforms in the electoral process, hinting that concerns about impartiality extend beyond just the Congress party.

As the debate intensifies in New Delhi and beyond, all eyes will be on how the Election Commission responds to this growing chorus of criticism — and whether these allegations will lead to any tangible changes in the way elections are managed in India.
