IMD predicts heavy rain in Uttarakhand; three workmen drown when bridge collapses
Rain falls in Uttarakhand, and the IMD forecasts that there will be substantial rainfall; three construction workers are swept away as a bridge collapses. The administration has made sure that the villages who have been temporarily relocated to relief camps have access to food as well as any other amenities they may require during their stay.
DEHRADUN: A cloudburst in the Okhladunga neighbourhood of Uttarakhand’s Nainital district damaged at least 50 homes. The afflicted households have been relocated to safer locations by the authorities.
Shailesh Kumar, the disaster management officer for Nainital District, told The New Indian Express that although debris and water had gotten into the villagers’ farms and homes as a result of the severe rains, no one had perished or lost anything of value.
The administration has given food and all the amenities required to the residents who have been temporarily relocated to relief camps.
District in-charge and Cabinet minister Rekha Arya quickly gave District Magistrate Nainital Vandana the go-ahead to take the appropriate steps after becoming aware of the cloudburst occurrence in Okhaldhunga. Minister Arya also gave the DM instructions to start aid distribution and disaster relief and rescue operations as soon as possible.
In a separate incident, one of an SUV’s eight occupants was killed, and seven others were pulled from a drain at Dhikuli in the Ramnagar area by police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
According to police sources, “a rivulet in Dhikuli overflowed due to the tremendous flow of water from the Corbett forest area, and an SUV coming from Delhi swept away. Yogesh Chimwal’s family and others from the neighbourhood managed to free the SUV’s occupants at around 2.30 in the morning.
Two people were washed away with the car at this moment. Later, firefighters arrived at the scene and extricated the two of them from the car. All of them were checked into the Ramnagar government hospital, where a young guy called Prakash Chandra Phulara was sent to the Higher Centre because of his critical condition; he passed away en route.
