New Delhi : A major security lapse has shaken the U.S. administration after a classified war plan against Yemen’s Houthi rebels was accidentally leaked on the Signal messaging app. The country’s National Security Advisor (NSA), Mike Waltz, has taken full responsibility for the breach, acknowledging that he was the one who created the group where the confidential discussion took place. Former President Donald Trump, however, has downplayed the incident, calling it a “minor mistake.”

According to reports, the U.S. government was discussing its attack strategy on Signal without realizing that a journalist from The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, was mistakenly added to the group. This blunder led to the highly sensitive military operation details being exposed to the press hours before the planned strike. Once the information was leaked, it caused a nationwide uproar, with critics calling it a serious failure of national security protocols.

Jeffrey Goldberg, after gaining access to the discussion, later reported the incident, bringing global attention to the mishap. His report sparked intense debates in Washington, questioning the Biden administration’s handling of classified intelligence and communication protocols. Many officials and security analysts believe that such a mistake could have compromised American forces and diplomatic relations in the Middle East.

Mike Waltz, taking full accountability, stated, “I created the group, but I was unaware of Jeffrey Goldberg’s presence in it.” His admission, however, has not been enough to silence critics, who are demanding a thorough investigation into how such a crucial mistake was made. Opposition leaders and security experts argue that such lapses could severely damage U.S. credibility and military strategy.

Despite the backlash, Donald Trump has come to Waltz’s defense, arguing that the leak was merely an error and should not be blown out of proportion. He further stated that mistakes happen in high-pressure environments, and this should not be used as political leverage against the administration.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks of digital communication in sensitive military and governmental operations. Security experts are now urging stricter protocols for handling classified discussions, especially on online platforms. The U.S. government may soon introduce new measures to prevent such breaches in the future, but the damage from this particular leak has already been done.
