UP Govt. forms SIT to probe charges against Zubair, co-founder Alt News

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate cases lodged against the co-founder of Alt News Mohammad Zubair.
Cases have been lodged against Zubair in different districts of the state.
Official sources said that Inspector General of Police (Prison) Pritinder Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the SIT and he will be assisted by DIG SIT Amit Verma.
The SIT has been asked to conduct a speedy probe and submit its charge sheet in the court at the earliest.
According to an official spokesman, six separate cases are lodged against Zubair in different districts of the state on the charges of making sarcastic remarks on the anchors of channels, inciting religious sentiments of Hindus and posting inflammatory posts and insults to deities.
The SIT will nominate Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy SPs and Inspectors for investigation at its own level. It has also been authorized to attach or take support of the local police in the investigation.
The SIT has been constituted on the recommendation of the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) for free and fair investigation into cases lodged against Zubair.
It may be noted that total six cases are lodged against Zubair in UP, including two in Hathras and one each in Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Ghaziabad and Muzaffarnagar under different sections of the Indian Penal Code(IPC) and other relevant sections of other Acts.
It may be mentioned here that Zubair was remanded to 14-days judicial custody by a local court in Lakhimpur Kheri in connection with a case lodged against him on charges of allegedly promoting enmity among groups on Monday. (UNI)
