Chandigarh  Police have arrested two individuals involved in a ₹1.70 lakh fraud case in Chandigarh. The accused duped victims by promising to sell them 4,000 US dollars at half the market price, but instead used an empty bag to deceive them.

The scam came to light when the victims realized that the cash they were promised was never delivered. The accused convinced the victims through a carefully crafted plan, gaining their trust before carrying out the fraud.

According to police reports, the fraudsters showed an empty bag during the transaction, leading the victims to believe that the money was inside. The accused fled with the victims’ money after the exchange.

The victims lodged a formal complaint with Chandigarh Police, who immediately launched an investigation. Using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the police tracked down and arrested the two suspects.

Police have recovered some of the stolen money and are conducting further inquiries to see if the accused were part of a larger criminal network. Officials have warned the public to remain cautious of such scams, especially when dealing with large sums of money in informal transactions.

Fraud cases involving foreign currency deals are reportedly on the rise in the region, exploiting the demand for foreign exchange at discounted rates. Authorities urge people to use authorized channels for currency exchange and avoid unverified deals.

The accused will face charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy, and theft. They are currently in police custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

This case highlights the growing need for public awareness about financial scams and the importance of reporting suspicious activities promptly. Chandigarh Police have assured stricter vigilance and swift action against such offenses to maintain public trust and safety.
