Tragedy at Bageshwar Dham: Wall Collapse Kills A Woman

Chhatarpur : A tragic incident unfolded early Tuesday morning at the famous Bageshwar Dham in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, where a Dharamshala wall collapsed, claiming the life of a female devotee and injuring more than ten others. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, who had traveled to the religious site for darshan and spiritual blessings.

The accident occurred just before dawn, when several devotees were resting near the old Dharamshala structure. Without warning, a portion of the wall gave way and collapsed on the sleeping devotees, causing panic and chaos. Eyewitnesses reported a loud crashing sound, followed by screams, as people rushed to pull the injured out from under the debris.

Emergency services and police teams reached the spot shortly after being alerted. Locals and other pilgrims joined hands with rescue teams to help retrieve the injured and transport them to the district hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed that over ten people were receiving treatment for injuries ranging from fractures to head wounds. One woman was declared dead on arrival.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but initial reports suggest that the wall was old and structurally weak. There are now rising concerns about the safety and maintenance of facilities at Bageshwar Dham, which witnesses thousands of visitors daily, especially during religious events and special gatherings.

District officials have assured that an inquiry will be conducted, and accountability will be fixed if negligence is found. The administration has also promised compensation for the victim’s family and proper medical care for the injured.

This is not the first time an accident has occurred at Bageshwar Dham. With increasing footfall and crowd pressure, questions are being raised about the infrastructure’s ability to handle large gatherings. Many devotees and locals are urging authorities to improve safety measures and regularly inspect old structures to prevent future tragedies.
