Top LeT commander among two militants killed in Kulgam gunfight
Srinagar, Oct 20 ( UNI) Two militants, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiban (LeT) commander involved in the killing of two labourers from Bihar, were killed by security forces in a brief gunfight in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Wednesday.
The police said the gunfight erupted at Devsar Kulgam during a cordon and a search operation which was launched by joint teams of security forces.
“Two terrorists have been killed,” a police officer said.
According to Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar, one of the slain militant has been identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba district commander Gulzar Ahmd Reshi of Kulgam.
“Police and Army neutralised LeT district commander (Gulzar Ahmd Reshi) of Kulgam and one other, who were involved in the killings of two poor labourers from Bihar on 17/10/21 at Wanpoh,” a police tweet quoted the IGP Kashmir.
On October 17 , two non-local labourers were shot dead in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district.
Earlier the day, a soldier was killed in a gunfight in neighbouring Shopian district that also left two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including a top commander, who was allegedly involved in the killing of a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh in Puwlama, dead.
