1828 – Casparus van Wooden patented chocolate milk powder (Amsterdam).
1899 – A gas burner was patented by Benjamin F. Jackson, a black American inventor (No. 622,482). His design improved the equal distribution of air under pressure to ensure more complete combusion of the fuel gas (pic credit-www.findagrave.com).

Born….1904 – Kundan Lal Saigal, golden voiced singer, legend in his lifetime, actor and film maker. (His memorable hits include “Ek Bangla Bane Nayara”, “Diya Jalao” etc).
1932 – Bapu Nadkarni (Rameshchandra Gangaram), Indian all-ronder. India’s dreaded slow left-arm spinner (1956-68). The most economical bowler of Indian cricket. He has records of 32-24-32-0 and 34-24-24-1 in 1960-61 series against Pakistan in Kanpur, Delhi respectively. He also delivered 131 dot-balls over 114-minute bowlings pell. He also scored 52* and 122* in Test cricket and 283* in a Ranji Trophy match for Bombay. Was also member of BCCI for sometime. Bapu was awarded CK Nayudu Lifetime Acheivement award in 2012.

1972 – lisa Ray, Canadian-Indian model and actress. Did modelling for Bombnay Dying and Lakme brands during 1960s. She did films like Hanste Khelte, Defendor, I Can’t Think Straight, Water, Kasoor etc. A Cancer-survivor, she is a holistic Health promotor and stem-cell therapy activist. She also worked the Discovery Channel India and other TV series.
You may have known…. Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (Aiyanger) calculated the exact value of pi (π) and used in circular calculations, and Astronomical calculations in the Shatapatha Brahmana (ca. 4th century BC) use a fractional approximation of 339/108 ≈ 3.139 (an accuracy of 9×10−4). Other Indian sources by about 150 BC treat π as √10 ≈ 3.1622). The sumbol Pi (π) is taken from Babylonian books and later in 18th century mathematicians. Ramanujan’s works on Pure Mathamatics were recognised
by making him the youngest Fellow of Royal Society of England. He died at a young age of 32.
