1715 – The first lighthouse in America was authorised by the Boston Light Bill for construction at Little Brewster Island, Massachusetts. (The lighthouse is also the last remaining manned station in the U.S).
1798 – Nepoleon Bonaparte conquers Alexandria Port of Egypt.
1829 – William Austin Burt, a surveyor, of Mount Vernon, Michigan, received a patent for his typographer, a forerunner of the typewriter.
1886 – Gottlieb Daimler invented his first car. He was a German engineer, industrial designer and industrialist. He was a pioneer of internal-combustion engines and automobiles (pic credit-animalia-life-club).
1888 – Scottish John Boyd Dunlop, applied to patent the pneumatic tyre as “an improvement in the tyres or wheels for bicycles, tricycles and other road tyres. These first tyres were glued to the wheel rim.
1903 – Ford Motor sells 1st Model A car.
1927 – All India Radio was launched by the British Govt. and named as State Broadcasting Service but named as Akashwani (All India Radio) by Rabindranath Tagore. It now has 420 stations in 23 languages and covers about 99% of Indian population, 92% of the country. It also has Global reach now through NewsOnAIR.com.
1942 – Adolf Hitler orders his army to advance to Stalingrad, (Russia).
1959 – Richard Nixon, American president, visits USSR. He was 37th President of America and had to resign in 1974 due to Watergate Scandel.
1990 – Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Indian Prime Minister and USSR President Gorbachev sign joint declaration committing their countries to building a nuclear-free and non-violent world in the first Indian-Soviet summit in the post-Gorbachev Soviet Union in Moscow.
2010 – The world’s record heaviest hailstone fell in Vivian, South Dakota weighing 1-lb 15-oz, and size 8.0-in diam. (A larger hailstone is said to have fallen on 14 Apr 1986 that weighed 2-lb 4-oz during a hailstorm in Bangladesh that killed 92 people).
2019 – Boris Johnson elected leader of Conservative Party and British Prime Minister. He replanced Theressa May.
2019 – Investigation launched after no girls born in three months in 132 villages in Uttarkashi district, India, with sex-selective abortions suspected as the reason.
Born…. 1856 – Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya, Indian scholar, mathematician, philosopher, and militant nationalist who helped lay the foundation for India’s independence. He was member of the legendary troika – Bal, Gopal and Lal (epithet for Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopalakrishna Gokhle and Lala Lajpat Rai) of Indian Freedom Movement in 1900s to 1930s, before MK Gandhi took it over through Ahimsa.
1906 – Chandrashekhar Azad (…Sitaram Tiwari), popularly known as Chandra Shekhar Azad, an Indian revolutionary who reorganised the Hindustan Republican Association under its new name of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association after the death of its founder, Ram Prasad Bismil, and three other prominent party leaders, Roshan Singh, Rajendra Nath Lahiri and Ashfaqulla Khan Azad, He He was involved in the Kakori Train Robbery of 1925, the shooting of John P. Saunders at Lahore in 1928 to avenge the killing of Lala Lajpat Rai, alongwith Sadashiv Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar and Bhagat Singh and later attempted to blow up Edword Wood, Viceroy of India’s train in 1929. Azad was marked by the Britishers for his revoltionary actions and chased with armed units, unitl Feb. 27, 1931, he was surrounded by police in the Alfred Park, Prayagraj (Allahabad). He killed 3 policemen but was himself wounded badly. So he shot himself, in order to remain Azad and avoid arrest until death (his pledge). He had also read Karl Marx’s theory of Communism. As a tribute to his martyrdom, many films were made viz., Shaheed, Shaheed-e.Azam, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Rang De Basanti, Swaraj serial and in different languages by Indian film idustry.
