660 BC – Traditional date for the foundation of Japan by Emperor Jimmu. His dynasty is believed to have lived until 571 AD and ruled for about 25 years.

1531 – Henry VIII, king of England, recognised as supreme head of Church in England following the schism with Rome.

1808 – Judge Jesse Fell developed a method to burn the stone coal without the use of forced air and his fireplace grate opened up the home heating market.

1818 – British  army  captured the ‘Ajinkyatara’ fort in Sahyadri Mountains of  Satara distt. Maharashtra,  which belonged to the Marathas.   Were built  by Raja Bhoj in the 12th century  at the hight of 3,300 ft above sea level, were captured by Shivaji Mahaj in 1673 from  Sultan of  Bijapur.                                                                                                                            1852 – First British public female toilet opens (Bedford Street, London)

1916 – Lucknow Pact: As part of the wider independence movement, the Congress and Muslim League so lidified their alliance, to mark heightened joint efforts.

1922 – Insulin treatment announced. It is a treatment for regulating  sugar in the blood,  It was  started by   Canadian surgeon Frederick Banting and his assistant Charles Best.

1933 – Mahatma Gandhi began the publication of his weekly journal, Harijan, from Yerwada Jail in Pune to promote social reform and address the issues of the untouchable community. It was published under Harijan  Sewak  Sangh banner from  1933  to 1955.1941 – “Archie” comic book debuts.  The comic books  created by publisher John Goldwater, artist  Bob Montana and artist  Vic Bloom  in village Pelham. It also became the first ficticious band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard charts in the US. and without performing the songs live onstage.

1979 – Cellular Jail, which is situated at Port Blair,  Andaman Nikobar Islands, was declared as a National Memorial. It was used by the colonial British govt. to  prison the freedom fighters and  applying all sort of physical atrocities on them.

1990 – Nelson Mandela released after 27 years imprisonment in South Africa.

 

1998 – Televsion Channel  KVBC-FM (Las Vegas) offers Monica Lewinsky $5M for  an interview. She was an intern under US  Prresident Bill Clinton’s office and allegedly  sexually  misused by the President.

2011 – Egyptian Revolution culminates in the resignation of Hosni Mubarak and the transfer of power to the Supreme Military Council after 18 days of protests.

2019 – Artificial Intelligence system meant to assist diagnosis in the future, pitted against physicians in test to diagnose 600,000 patients in results published in “Nature Medicine”, A.I. won.

Born…. 1750 – Tilka Majhi, one of the earliest Indian revolutionaries and tribal leaders who led a fierce armed rebellion against the British in Santhal Parganas, Bihar. Born in Sultanpur (Bengal), he started rebellion around 1771  until 1785 when he was killed by the British army. He was revered as Majhi Baba by  the tribals. (pic credit-adivasilivesmatter.com).

1847 – Thomas Alva Edison, great scientist and inventor of electric light lamp.

1917 – T. Nagi Reddy, Indian revolutionary. Joined  Communist Party after independence.

1957 – Tina  Munim (Ambani), former model and romantic Bollywood actor. She’s known for her roles  in Des Pardes with veteran Dev Anand,  Lootmaar,  Baaton Baaton  Mein,  Karz, Manpasand,  Pukar, Fifty Fifty  etc. She was awarded Femina Teen Miss India in 1975 and attended Miss Teenage Intercontinental Contest in Aruba to  win a runner-up  prize. She  married  industrialist  Anil  Ambani in Feb. 1991   and bade good bye to her filmy career.

RIP….1942 – Jamnalal Bajaj, great  iIndustrialist, Gandhian social reformer, freedom fighter.  He founded the Bajaj Group of companies in the 1920s, and the group  has 24 companies, including six that are listed on the bourses.

1968 – Deendayal Upadhyaya, the co-founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (the precursor to the BJP); was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Mughalsarai railway station. The BJP observes this day as “Samarpan Diwas” (Day of Dedication) in his memory.

1977 – Dr. Fakruddin Ali Ahmad the 5th President of India from 1974 to 1977. He died of  heart  attack.

1993 – Kamal Amrohi, famous film producer, director and script writer. He wrote for many successful films like Bharosa, Mahal, Pagal, Pakeezah,  Daera, Razia Sultan etc. He married  legendary film heroine  Meena Kumari though they fell out and she divorced Amrohi in 1964.

You may have known…. Lotus is the national flower of India, symbolising purity, beauty, prosperity, and spiritual knowledge. It is an aquatic plant that thrives in murky waters, representing detachment and virtue, as it remains untouched by the surrounding mud.
