1789 – 1st US national Thanksgiving Day.

1832 – The first horse drawn American street car in the U.S. began public operation in New York City.

1949 – India adopts a constitution as a British Commonwealth Republic. (New Constitution of India adopted and signed. The constitution of India was framed by a Constituent Assembly set up under the Cabinet Mission Plan, 1946. The Assembly held its first meeting on December 9, 1946 and elected Dr.Rajendra Prasad as its Chairman. The Constitution was prepared by the Drafting commission under the chairmanship of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The Constitution is preceded by a Preamble which outlines its aim and objectives. It reads as “We, the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular Democratic Republic and to secure to all its citizens JUSTICE: social, economical and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity and to promote among them all; FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the nation“).

1960 – First S.T.D. system of telephone (Subscriber Trunk Dialing) services started between Lucknow and Kanpur in India.

2008 – Mumbai terrorist attacks over four days in South Mombai viz.,  Chhatrapati Maharaj Shivaji Terminus, Taj Mahal  Palace & Tower Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital & Nariman House,  near Xavier College and Mazagaon Dock area. (10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), an Islamic militant organisation based in Pakistan, carried out a series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days across Mumbai. 179 citizens were killed and at least 308 wounded (including about 15  foreign nationals). Ajmal Kasab who was captured alive, disclosed that the attackers were members of LeT, among others. The Government of India said that the attackers came from Pakistan, and their controllers were in Pakistan. On 7 January 2009, Pakistan confirmed the sole surviving perpetrator of the attacks was a Pakistani citizen. On 9 April 2015, the foremost ringleader of the attacks, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, was granted bail against surety bonds of ₨ 200,000 in Pakistan).

Born…. 1914 – Ch. Ranbir Singh Hooda, politician. freedom fighter . He was Member of Constituent Assembly and Minister in undivided Punjab and later Haryana. He was the father of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda. freedom fighter,  politician . He was Member of Constituent Assembly and Minister in undivided Punjab and later Haryana. He was the father of former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

1924 – Jasubhai Motibhai (Jasu) Patel, very deadly Indian off-spinner and popular cricketer.  He scalped  9-69 v Australia in 1959. He earlier  bowled out  5 for 43 and 6 for 61 against Baroda and 8 for 53 in 1950-51. He was awarded Padam Shri by Govt. of India.

1972 – Arjun Rampal, actor,  model, Tollywood  and Bollywood actor. Has has acted in about 40 films like Dil Ka Rishta, Dil Hai Tumhara, Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, Om Shanti Om etc. Has won a National Film, a Filmfare and more awards.

RIP:….. 2005 – Gopal Vinayak Godse. He was the younger brother of Nathuram Godse and one of the conspirators in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 1948. He was the last among them to survive and lived his last days in Pune.

2008 – Hemant Kamalakar  Karkare IPS. Joint Commissioner Mumbai Police was martyred while fighting  Pakistan based 10  LeT  terrorists who had  sneaked into India  and seized  Taj Hotel Mumbai  on Nov. 26, 2008. About 189 persons were killed and over 308 wounded.  One Pakistani Terrorist Ajmal Kasab was caught and hanged later.

1990 – Meera Nandan, South film actor, model and  a radio jockey who appears mainly in Malayalam films.  Kochi born  model  lives in Tirivananthapuram  has also acted in Tamil,  Telugu and Kannada  films.

You may have known…. The projected death rate for India in 2025 is approximately 7.53 deaths per 1,000 people, which is a slight increase from the previous year.
