1909 – Wright Brothers deliver 1st military plane to the army.
1935 – 1st Penguin book is published, starting the paperback revolution.( Penguin Books is a British publishing house. Penguin revolutionised publishing through its inexpensive paperbacks, sold through Woolworths and other high street stores for sixpence).
1947 – The part of Kashmir, North West Frontier Provience (NWFP), was swallowed up by Pakistan. The formality of raising the flag being done in November.
2003 – The last “old style” Volkswagen Beetle rolls off the assembly line in Mexico.
2012 – Indian power grid failure leaves over 300 million without electricity.
Born…. 1863 – Henry Ford, American inventor and automobile manufacturer who first experimented with internal combustion engines while he was an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company. He completed his first useful gas motor on 24 Dec 1893. The Quadricycle, he designed made its first road test on 4 Jun 1896. On 16 Jun 1903, he and eleven investors signed paperwork to incorporate the Ford Motor Company.
1962 – Mandakini. (real name Yasmeen Joseph Thakur), professionally credited asMandakini, is a former Indian actress. She is best remembered for her lead role in the 1985 popular film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. Some more films done by her are are Dance Dance with Mithun Chakraborti, Kahan Hai Kanoon, Pyar Karke Dekho etc. Later she became Buddhist and was also seen with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
1973 – Sonu Nigam, popular singer, dubbing artist and music director actor. He sings romantic, devotional and patriotic songs for films and ghazals etc. He has recorded over 6000 songs in 32 languages and won a National Film, 4 IIFA and 2 Filmfare plus 2 South awards. Also honoured with Padma Shree by Govt. of India.
1973 – Sonu Sood. Indian model, actor, producer and philanthropist. He mostly does villain roles in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil films like Arundhati, Dabangg etc. (pic credit-www.mensxp.com)
1990 – Aakanksha Singh is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi and Telugu language films and television. Started as a theatre artiste, she made her screen debut with the Colors TV’s television series Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha etc.
RIP…. 1622 – Goswami Tulsidas, devotee of Maryada Purushottam Ram, a saint, great poet and writer of Ramayana and Ramcharit Manas in Dohas/prose. ( his death is believed to be on July 30 or Oct. 23).
