(National Pollution Control Day is celebrated on 2 December to raise awareness about pollution and its hazardous effects).

1804 – Napoleon Bonaparte crowned France’s  emperor. He remained on throne from May 1804 to 1814 and again for a short period in 1815. He faught many wars  to become  sole powerful  across the globe, and won  over Austria, Prussia and attacked England  but could not, then attacked  Russia but could not win and had  to retreat to Paris  after  a distrous  war in which over 4,00,000 soldiers.

1877 – Louis-Paul Cailletet became the first to liquefy oxygen.

1942 – The first self-sustained nuclear chain reaction was demonstrated in Chicago. (Fifteen years later to the day, in 1957, the first full-scale atomic electric generating station in the U.S. began operation in Pennsylvania, generating 60 megawatts of power).

1982 – Jarvik-7, the first permanent artificial heart ever used for a human patient.

1901 – King Camp Gillette begins selling safety razor blades.

1927 – 1st Model A Fords sold, for $385.

1971 – UAE was formed by joining 7 Emirates which were under UK rule until 1947 and later independent oil rich   islands. Abu Dhabi is its capital.

1984 – Following the Bhopal Gas disaster on the night of December 2, 1984, the ICMR initiated a series of interdisciplinary investigations on the health of the people with severe, moderate and mild exposure. A Coordinating Unit, which was later re-designated as the Bhopal Gas Disaster Research Centre was established early in 1985 at the Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, to monitor and coordinate the managerial and technical faults  of the various projects.

It is alleged the chief of Union Carbide M  Warren Anderson was  allowed to escape by the state and central govts led by then  CM Arjun Singh and Prime Minister  Rajiv Gandhi respectively to save him  from prosecution.

1989 – V. P. Singh sworn in as the 8th Prime Minister of India.

2014 – Legendary physicis, cosmologist scientist  Stephen Hawking claims that Artificial Intelligence could be a “threat to mankind” and spell the end of the human race (pic credit-Britannica).

2018 – Israeli police recommend  Prime Minister Benjamin    Netanyahu and his wife be charged with fraud and bribery.

Born….1855 – Narayan Ganesh Chandavarkar, one of the founders of Indian National Congress and Hindu social reformer (pic credit-Wikipedia).

1959 – Boman Irani, talented  Bollywood actor, photographer, producer. Has acted in over 100 films in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil  films like Khosla ka Ghosla, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Main Hoon Na, 3 Idiots, Don, Dunki, Happy New Year, Unchai, Kaappaan, The Mehta Boys  etc. He won a Filmfare and 2 nominations apart from StarDust, Producers’ Guild and Global Indian awards. 1960 – Silk Samitha (vijayalakshmi Vedlapati),  South Indian  romantic and in mostly sexcist  roles,  who worked in Tamil and Telugu cinema between 1979  and 1996 (till death)  starting wth Vandichakkram and  did  Sadma, Play Girls, Spadikam, Moondram Pirai etc. She aso did Kannada, Malyalam and Hindi films , .

1970 – Kashmira Shah, Bollywood actor who acted in Marathio and Bollywood films like Khatron Ke Khiladi,  Entertainment, Marne Bhi Do Yaaro, Wake Up Sid, Aur Pappu Paas Ho Gaya, Shikari, City of God,  and some shows like Nach Baliye, Fear Factor, Bigg Boss etc. .

1552 – Father Francis Xavier, Portuguese Jesuit priest. He started his mission by training and employing native clergy in conversion efforts. He spread Christianity to India, Malay Archipelago and Japan.
